Pinewood Derby

Pinewood Derby has been a scouting staple for decades. The pack provides a pinewood derby kit to each scout. The kit includes a block of wood, four wheels and 4 nails to use as axels. Scouts use patience and creativity to design their car and a knowledge of friction and areodynamics to make it fast. Race day includes awards for the most creative designs and the fastest cars.
Rules
The scout must use the pinewood derby kit provided. The completed car must not weight more the 5 ounces. The car can be weighted to get it as close to 5 ounces as possible. Weights can be purchased a local hobby stores or you can be creative and use coins, washers or other items for weighting the car. There will be an official weigh-in the day prior to the race. It is wise to be able to add or remove a small amount of weight from the car easily so that you can reach the target weight of 5 ounces on the official scale.
For the complete official pinewood derby racing rules, see the Northstar Council web site.
